The Krasnodar regional committee of the Emergencies Ministry believes that the flooding situation in the region (in the south-east of Russia) has stabilised. The committee held a session in Krasnodar on Monday. The water level of the Kuban river is subsiding. 40 houses in the town of Temryuk remain flooded, while water has been pumped out of the remaining buildings. There are plans to return those people evacuated from the town in 1-2 days. In all, 410 residents returned home on Sunday, while the process has been continued today. The main task remains breaking ice floes interfering with the normal flow of water on the Kuban. Three ice-breakers have been called into to remove ice from the river's estuaries, in addition to the explosives that are being used to break up the floes. Work has been resumed to repair damaged sections of dams. This should be completed in 2-3 days. Heavy earth-moving equipment and helicopters are being used in these efforts.
