The Federation Council Intends To Adopt New Regulations

Speaker of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov expects that at its tomorrow session the House will adopt new Regulations. The Speaker said that at the next session, which had been planned for January 30, "all personnel questions will be resolved" - new vice speakers and chairmen of the committees of the Federation Council will be approved. The Federation Council "starts its activity on a new, permanent, basis," and for this reason, he explained, it is necessary to adopt new Regulations. "Five new committees and five new commissions will appear. We shall have the House's sessions at least two times a month, and the committees will meet every week," pointed out the Speaker of the Upper House. Apart from that, he continued, the Regulations will provide for the possibility of electing the leadership of the Upper House in accordance with a single list, that is, "in a package." According to Sergei Mironov, the new members of the Federation Council intend "to cooperate closely and on a broad basis" with their colleagues in the regions, in particular, with the legislative assemblies of the territories. He said that at the present time work is underway to create the Russian Council of Legislators and that all the heads of the legislative assemblies approved of the idea.
