Vojvodina, the Kosovo of tomorrow?

The political leadership of the province of Vojvodina in Northern Serbia has called on Belgrade to deliver a reform package. This province, which has a strong Hungarian influence, has been considered the bread-basket of Yugoslavia, due to the fact that it is rich in agriculture and supplies the rest of the country with staple products. Now the main political figures have called on Belgrade to adopt a law on the transfer of certain jurisdiction to the province from the central authorities. A press conference was promoted by the three leaders of the pro-autonomy parties to prove that there was no rift among them. The leaders were Nenad Canak, Mile Isakov and Jozsef Kasza. Nenad Canak stated that it was necessary to change the Constitution of Yugoslavia, to provide for the autonomy of Vojvodina. It is reported in Serbia that the party of President Vojislav Kostunica is against such a measure.
