Dengue fever outbreak

An outbreak of dengue fever has broken out in Rio de Janeiro, causing nearly 2,000 victims. The disease is spreading fast through the city and its metropolitan area. 1,800 cases have been registered in the last two weeks. Dengue fever is a viral tropical disease, transmitted to humans by a mosquito. Its symptoms are similar to influenza and it can be deadly. The incidence of Dengue fever rises after heavy tropical rains in the hot summer, providing a perfect environment for the mosquitoes to breed.
