Dmitry Litvinovich: The Pakistani President thinks Osama bin Laden is dead

The Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, joined those, talking about the whereabouts of the prime suspect, and whether he is alive at all.

“The leader of the international terrorist organization al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, is most likely dead, since he did not have a possibility to get the necessary medical treatment at the time of his illness,” – Musharraf said to CNN.

Musharraf earlier expressed another point of view on the issue. In the interview, which was published in the Pakistani News newspaper, Musharraf stated that Bin Laden had most likely been killed during the massive air raids in Afghanistan’s Tora Bora mountainous area.

Now the Pakistani leader is talking about Bin Laden’s kidney disease, as if he is an urologist. Musharraf declared that there were only two kidney machines in Afghanistan, when the Taliban was the ruling movement, and one of them was used by Bin Laden only. Musharraf acknowledged that he did not know, if he could get the necessary medical aid lately. Musharraf called upon everyone to watch Bin Laden’s photographs depicted on television more carefully. In his opinion, he looks very weak on those pictures.

Maybe it is about the quality of the photographs, Mr. President. A war is not a resort in the long run. Being serious, Musharraf only needs to draw aside the suspicion that Osama is possibly hiding in Pakistan. Otherwise, the Americans will make the second Afghanistan out of Pakistan, in addition to the conflict with India.
