Protective systems shut down 3rd energy unit of Novovoronezh nuclear power plant and 1st unit of Leningrad nuclear power facility

The protective system of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant, in Russia's Southern Federal District, has shut down its third energy unit. The stoppage occurred yesterday at 5.37 pm Moscow time, the press service of the Russian federal emergencies ministry told RIA Novosti Tuesday. The local residents and environment are not facing any danger whatsoever, with the radiation background near the facility being within norm.

At 8.17 pm Moscow time of the same day, the high-speed protection system switched off the first unit of the Leningrad nuclear power facility. The shutdown was a standard one. The radiation background is within norm. Electricity is supplied on faultlessly.

Commissions are looking into what caused the two stoppages.
