Unidentified person opened fire on servicemen in Chechnya, but killed by return fire

An unidentified person has opened fire on a group of Russian Interior Force servicemen in Chechnya. The soldiers opened return fire and killed the attacker.

Law-enforcement bodies of the Chechen republic reported on Monday that the clash took place the day before in the village of Dyshne-Vedeno. A reconnaissance squad of the Russian Interior Force came under fire near a demolished school building. Servicemen opened return fire and killed a fighter. The militant is currently being identified. No casualties among federal soldiers have been reported. At the scene, there was found a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a rocket launcher and other weapons.

In addition, over the past 24 hours, a search team assigned to a provisional police department and a checkpoint have come under fire in the Leninski district of Grozny. Militants have also attacked checkpoints located in the Oktyabrski district of Grozny and in the town of Argun. An assault on a police station has taken place in the village of Shelkovskaya. No casualties among policemen have been reported. During the attacks, federal servicemen opened return fire. Militants' casualties remain as yet unclear.
