The World Economic Forum opens in New York. Anti-globalization forum opens in Brazil

The World Economic Forum starts in New York today. Peace after the terrorist attack of September 11 is the key subject of the annual discussion. The forum gathered 2700 people from 106 countries, half of them are leaders of the world’s businesses, about 30 heads of the states and governments, over 300 well-known politicians of the world, as well as representatives of the intellectual elite and the leading mass media outlets. The Russian delegation will be represented by Prime-Minister Mikhail Kasyanov.

Prime-TASS reported that the motto of the current session is “ Leadership during Troublesome Times: the Vision of a Common Future.” The issue of international terrorism will be touched upon during every discussion. It should also be mentioned that it is the first time when the WEF is taking place not in Davos (Switzerland), where it has been traditionally conducted before, but in New York. The Swiss authorities claimed that they were not sure if they could guarantee the necessary security measures due to possible demonstrations on the part of the anti-globalists. The New York administration is sure that they will not allow even the smallest opportunity for the September events or any other street mess to repeat itself. Three battalions of the US Secret Service, two FBI’s battalions, and the security service of the US State Department will guarantee security for the world leaders.

The anti-globalists opened their “Anti-Davos” in Brazil, the world public forum for those who stand against the globalization of the world economy. This forum will take place at the same time as the one taking place in New York. The anti-globalisation forum will gather some 60 thousand participants: the delegates of different non-governmental, public, and youth organization of the world.
