New Afghanistan To Establish Military And Technical Cooperation With Russia

The Afghan military command is counting on Russia's assistance in training the personnel for re-establishing the national Armed Forces. This information was disclosed by Asef Delawar, the Chief of Staff, the Afghan Armed Forces. According to the Afghan commander, the main difficulty which the new Afghan army is facing, is the lack of "well-trained commanders and technical personnel, especially of junior and middle-rank officers." At the same time, Delawar believes that the best way to restore the army is to use the already existing units. "Afghans have used and are using only Russian equipment and armaments," the General stated. Moreover, he stressed that for decades, Afghan combat tactics and troop command system had been built on the Soviet model. That is why, the commander stated, military and technical cooperation with Russia is a top priority for modern Afghanistan.
