Russian President On Need For New Migration Law

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that a new migration law is to be worked out. During a direct television broadcast of the ORT and RTR channels, the President said that the need "was not to improve the law on refugees, but create a migration law that was beneficial for Russia ". Vladimir Putin underlined that "the days when we helped refugees had gone", and "apart from rare exceptions", anyone who wanted to have left other CIS countries for Russia. According to the President, he has given the government instructions to draw up a new and appropriate law, which is associated with migrants from CIS countries being directed, above all, to regions where there are manpower shortages. On the whole, Vladimir Putin admitted that "former Soviet Union citizens" share a single culture and mentality with Russians, - "a gift for Russia". The President gave the example of many developed countries, whose demographic problems are resolved with migrants of other countries, but problems arise due to the wide language and cultural problems.
