Current Pattern Of Russia's Military-technical Cooperation With Foreign States Is Justified

The present pattern of military-technical cooperation between Russia and foreign states is justified and promising, said Mikhail Dmitriev on Monday. Dmitriev is the chairman of the Russian Committee for Military-Technical Cooperation with Foreign States. He recalled that fundamentals for the pattern were laid about a year ago by the creation of the committee and the only state agent, the Rosoboronexport company. Dmitriev noted positive trends in the sphere of export of arms and military hardware -- increasing sales volumes, hard currency receipts and good prospects for expanding the geography of supplies. Now Russia exports arms and military equipment to 67 countries. Its main partners are India, China, Greece, countries in the Middle East and South-East Asia. Work in on with also countries in Latin America, informed the Committee's chairman. Dmitriev ranked as "promising" the development of military-technical cooperation with Afghanistan, though it is early yet to speak of concrete plans in this field. He did not rule out development of such cooperation with the United States and Israel. "The Russian side is ready for it", said Mikhail Dmitriev. In his view, resumption of military-technical cooperation with Armenia and Azerbaijan, which Russia in its time ceased on appeal from the international community, is possible in the future. As regards political aspects of military-technical cooperation with foreign countries, Dmitriev stressed that "Russia has not gone, and will not go beyond the four corners of the international commitments it has assumed".
