Australia: Fires continue

Over 5,000 firefighters continue battling over 100 fires burning continously across the State of New South Wales. While the temperature dropped today and the wind eased considerably, the number of recorded fires exceeds now 100. A large proportion of those fires have been deliberately lit. Over 140 houses were lost till now and thosands of evacuated residents spend their Christmas in temporary accomodation. A group of 140 firefighters from Victoria arrived today to assist their New South Wales colleagues. The situation is the worst case of bush fires in Australia over the last 20 years.
