Central Bank's Assets Grew By 24.5% In First 11 Months Of 2001

According to the Central Bank's balance-sheet for 2001, published today, the Russian Central Bank's assets increased by 24.5% in the first 11 months of 2001 and reached 1.677 trillion rubles (about $55.6 billion) as of December 1, 2001. The volume of precious metals in the assets had reduced by 3.5% since the beginning of last year, and their value was 52.9 billion rubles (about $1.8 billion) as of December 1, 2001. The volume of funds and securities in foreign currencies, deposited with non-residents, was up 43.3% and reached 1 trillion rubles (about $33.2 billion). The volume of loans and deposits rose by 11.3% to 224.3 billion rubles (about $7.4 billion). The volume of securities was up 1.3% and amounted to 232.1 billion rubles (about $7.7 million). The volume of other assets had increased by 4.7% since the beginning of last year to 76.4 billion rubles (about $2.5 billion). The following changes in the bank's liabilities took place: the volume of cash in circulation had increased by 25% since the beginning of last year to 560.1 billion rubles (about $18.6 billion). The sum of funds at accounts in the Central Bank of Russia rose by 34.2% to 718.8 billion rubles (about $23.8 billion). The Central Bank's capital was 165.8 billion rubles (about $5.5 billion) as of December 1, 2001.
