Alexander Gorobets: Ukraine laid down authorities of UN Security Council’s non-standing member

Ukraine has laid down the authorities of non-standing member of the UN Security Council. The period of the responsibilities expired on December 31, 2001.

Ukraine was elected to the UN Security Council from a group of Eastern European states for the period of 2000-2001. Kiev had handed in the application for election in 1996, but votes necessary for the election were collected by 1999 only.

This year Bulgaria was elected a member of the Council as a representative of the Eastern European countries.

The USA, Great Britain, Russia, France and China are standing members of the UN Security Council.
