People to People International is a member of the Friendship through Education Consortium, founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. It is a non-profit making organization which promotes contact between students.

Basically, it is a global pen pal agency, which organizes contacts between students, stimulating cultural exchange and building international human relations through contact.

The Program, PTPI Pen Pal Program, describes itself as “a service that fosters friendship and global understanding between people of different nations”, and an “enriching, intercultural experience”.

So far, so good. Even the program’s slogan is appealing: “Peace through Understanding”.

However, at the top of this program’s literature, in capital letters with bold type, alongside the name of its founder, at the top right, is the name of the program’s proud president: President George W. Bush
