Sources in the Central Sea Rescue Station in Vladivostok informed a RIA Novosti correspondent that three teenagers carried away to the open sea on a drifting ice-floe had been rescued in Vladivostok (Russian Far East).
Three school students went fishing on brittle ice of the Diomid Bay on Thursday without permission of their parents. A bloc of ice-floe was torn by the wind and carried away in the open sea by the currents. Witnesses of the incident informed the rescuers about the tragedy by phone.
A rescue boat departed on a search for unlucky fishermen. Its crew rescued the teenagers at the moment when the ice-floe had already left the bay and started drifting away.
Presently, the rescuers have a lot of work in many local bays around Vladivostok and in the Amur Bay because dozens of fishermen continue fishing despite numerous warnings about the danger of fishing during the active ice-breaking season.
