Volume of national currency in circulation grows 24.39% in 2002

The volume of national currency in circulation rose 24.39 percent in 2002 in Russia and amounted to RUR2.119 trillion (around $66.6bn) in January 2003, the External and Internal Relations Department of the Russian Central Bank reported. Of the total national currency circulating in Russia cash accounted for 36 percent on January 1, 2003 (RUR763.3bn or around $24bn), while bank accounts made up RUR1.356 trillion (around $42.64bn). An increase in the amount of rubles circulating in Russia was 9.8 percent in January 2003 as compared to December 2002.
