World War II Bomb Found in Central Moscow

An unexploded bomb dating back to the Great Patriotic War /World War II/ has been found in the centre of Moscow on the Frunzenskaya embankment.

Servicemen of the city's operative services have arrived at the scene of the incident. The place has been cordoned, and is now being examined by disposal experts, the police reported.

In autumn-winter 1941, the German fascist troops came close to Moscow and hoped to take it quickly. The city's defenders created an unprecedented line of defence, yet German pilots still managed to penetrate the air space of the Russian capital and dropped bombs. Some of them even fell on the territory of the Kremlin, which is situated not far from the Frunzenskaya embankment of the Moskva River. The German troops were defeated outside Moscow by spring 1942.
