Will USA Attack North Korea after Iraq?

There is an opportunity of another army operation

Probably, one should have expected that. The Korean crisis was to develop sooner or later. There were not many variants, though: either Pyongyang and Washington come to a compromise and start negotiations, or they just keep on threatening each other. To all appearances, there has been the second variant chosen, albeit a more efficient one, with more predictable consequences.

There have been a lot of news messages reported over the recent couple of days, saying that the United States was going to increase its military presence in the area of the Korean peninsula. US aircraft carrier Carl Vinson is to travel there soon. This vessel will go there in order to substitute another USS – Kitty Hawk, which is supposed to be sent to the Persian Gulf, closer to Iraq. In addition to that, the American aviation group in the Far East region will be intensified with bomber planes B1 and B2, as well as with F16 pursuit planes. As a matter of fact, there is no need to explain, what the group is intensified for. Washington strategists believe that it will serve a good warning message to Pyongyang.

Furthermore, the American administration advised Kim Jong-Il not to relax: when the war in Iraq starts, the USA will have enough energy and money to strike North Korea, if there is a need for that. By the way, it seems that Washington seriously considers an opportunity of a military solution for the Korean crisis. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer stated that George Bush still believed in the opportunity to extricate from the crisis peacefully. However, as they say, if you want to have peace, get ready for war. Moreover, Bush’s closest ally, the British Prime minister Tony Blair, has recently promised that North Korea was going to be the next after Iraq.

On the whole, the opportunity of negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang is getting more and more obscure. Of course, it does not mean that the war in the Korean peninsula is inevitable. No matter what the Pentagon might say, the USA is not likely to cope with the fighting on two fronts – it would be a heavy burden to carry for America. In addition to that, no one can guarantee now that North Korea does not have a nuclear bomb. This is another fact to prove that the war with North Korea would have rather catastrophic consequences. On the other hand, there is a strong temptation to apply the military force and to put an end to the North Korean regime for good. This idea keeps conquering the minds of the members of the American administration.

It is not ruled out that there might be an army operation against North Korea, although this operation might not be of a large scale. It can be restricted to air raids on North Korean dangerous objects, as the USA sees that. Anyway, if it happens, it will happen after the war in Iraq is over.
