The 45 heads of state expected to attend the summit in St. Petersburg in May will be accompanied by a combined entourage of 1,500. This is according to the statement made at a meeting of the Commission of the Council of Federation for preparing for St. Petersburg's tercentenary, the city's Deputy Governor, Alexander Prokhorenko. However, Mr. Prokhorenko assured that St. Petersburg could handle this number of guests and that security would be maintained at a highest level.
Alexei Chumak, Chairman of the Transportation Committee, informed that cruise ships were being adapted to be used as hotels, a large number of new busses and trolleybuses prepared to join the city's fleet, and the Pulkovo airport ready to handle up to 30 million passengers annually.
The city's best palaces, such as Mariinsky, Konstantinovsky, and Hermitage, are being prepared for the coming summit.
