Federal Chamber of Lawyers Set Up in Russia

The Federal Chamber of Lawyers was set up in Russia to assist the observation and protection of rights and liberties of citizens. Other goals of this professional association of Russian lawyers are the protection of their interests in state bodies, the expertise of federal bills on lawyers' activities and participation in various international organisations.

The all-Russia lawyers' congress, which closed on Saturday night, adopted the regulations of the chamber and elected its heads. Chairman of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Lawyers Vladimir Semenyako was elected president of the new organisation.

In addition, the congress adopted the Code of Professional Ethics of Russian lawyers, implying that honesty and good faith should be their main principles.
