12 Nominees for Post of Magadan's Governor

The last preparations for Sunday gubernatorial elections are held in the Magadan region (the north of the Far-Eastern Federal District). According to the law, the election campaign was ceased today.

The early elections of the head of the executive power of the Magadan region, the main gold-mining region of the country, were appointed in connection with the murder of former governor Valentin Tsvetkov. He was killed by unidentified criminals in Moscow on October 18, 2002.

There are 12 nominees for the vacant post, including regional officials, bankers, heads of major enterprises and businessmen.

All security agencies of the Magadan region were put on red alert in view of the forthcoming elections.
