Avtodor Begins Production of Korean KIA Trucks in Kaliningrad

The official launch of South Korean KIA's new assembly line for light goods vehicles was held yesterday at the Avtodor holding's production site in Kosmodemyansky near Kaliningrad. Participants in the ceremony included Andrei Stepanov, the deputy presidential envoy for the North-West Federal District, and regional governor Vladimir Yegorov.

According to Vladimir Scherbakov, the chairman of Avtodor's board, the design of the truck, which has a load capacity of 1.5 tonnes, means it can be produced in 16 different specifications. 1,500 trucks are planned to be produced this year, all destined for the domestic market as they surpass Russian equivalents from GAZ and ZIL in terms of reliability, longevity and practicality. In the future, production is planned to be stepped up to 10-12 thousand units per year. The price of a KIA lorry will vary from USD 10,500 - 14,000, depending on the specifications.
