All Flights Between Kamchatka And Mainland Postponed Because of Cyclone

All flights between Kamchatka and the mainland have been postponed because of a cyclone. The Kamchatka inter-regional territorial department for hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring reported that a powerful cyclone, which moved from the Primorye regions to the Sea of Okhotsk has been influencing the weather conditions on Kamchatka for more than three days now.

The greatest influence is felt in southern and southeastern districts of the peninsula. The air temperature rose to 2-5 degrees centigrade above zero. Such rise has not happened in Kamchatka since 1968.

In most densely populated regions of Kamchatka - Petropavlovsk, Vilyuchinsk, and the Yelizovsky district the wind gusts reached 24 m per second. Thirty-three millimeters of snow fell over the three days. Roads are covered with ice.

The wind gusts reached 25-30 m per second in the Ozerny district and the neighbouring part of the Sea of Okhotsk. The danger of the avalanche descent remains in the mountainous regions.

According to forecasters, the cyclone is losing its power and moving to the Pacific Ocean. The influence of the atmospheric whirlwind in the southern and southeastern districts will stop any time soon.
