7 People Rescued Near Mutnovsky Volcano, Kamchatka

On Kamchatka, Russian Far East, rescuers found seven people who had been missing in the neighborhood of the volcano Mutnovsky.

Around 8 o'clock Moscow time on Thursday, landrovers belonging to Tekhnopromexport and Geoterm, which had set out from the Mutnovsky geothermal power plant to search for the missing people, came across the vehicles that got lost in the area of the Mutnovsky pass during a snowstorm.

In a couple of hours, the rescued people will be delivered to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in a bus. None of them is hurt.

On January 29th, a group of firefighters set out for Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky from the Mutnovsky geothermal plant they had been inspecting on two Urals and a bulldozer. The vehicles were caught in a snowstorm and got stuck among snowdrifts about 10 kilometers away from the pass. Shortly afterwards, communication broke down and nothing was known about the whereabouts of the missing vehicles. The search involved a landrover from the geothermal plant and a helicopter with rescuers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
