Putin and Bush Discuss Russian Envoy's Talks with North Korea

Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday informed US President George Bush of the results of talks held in Pyongyang by Russian special envoy Alexander Losyukov. According to the president's press service, the talks were initiated by Russia. The Russian President stressed that, in the opinion of the Russian side, the meeting in Pyongyang has left 'a good foundation for a productive dialogue with North Korea aimed at easing the crisis and finding a solution to the so-called 'North Korean nuclear problem''. The two presidents also agreed to continue contacts between their foreign affairs departments over this issue.

While discussing Iraq, Vladimir Putin said that the main criterion for evaluating the situation would be the conclusions reached by the international inspectors, which will soon be presented to the UN Security Council.
