Azot Company Increased Production of Mineral Fertilisers by 7.3% in 2002

In 2002, the Azot company, a subsidiary of EvroKhim chemical company, increased its output of mineral fertilisers by 7.3% to 646,000 tonnes. The production of nitric fertilisers increased by 7.8% to 640,000 tonnes. According to EvroKhim's press service, the production of phosphate-based fertilisers somewhat decreased due to the strained situation as concerns their sales. Domestic demand for fertilisers is low because of the low solvency of the majority of Russia's agricultural producers.

Put together, the subsidiaries of the EvroKhim chemical holding, including Azot, produce annually about 1.6 million tonnes of nitric and over 1.5 million tonnes of phosphate fertilisers and over 300,000 tonnes of phosphate feeds. The company claims to account for about 2% of the world's market of mineral fertilisers. The Moscow MDM group is EvroKhim's largest stockholder.
