Ford sold 1,245 automobiles in Russia in December 2002

The amount of sales of Ford Motor Company via authorized dealers reached 1,245 automobiles in Russia in December 2002, the Russian office of the company reported. The market share of Ford Motor Company (among foreign carmakers) reached unprecedented 14%.

Russian-made Ford Focus was the market leader in December (922 cars were sold). Additionally, the company sold 186 Ford Mondeo cars, and 60 Transit vans.

According to Sergey Bogdanov, director of the Sales Department of Ford's Russian office, the increase in sales was mainly due to the beginning of production of Focus cars in Russia. Ford's dealers have received about 6,000 orders for such cars. This amount substantially exceeds initial estimates by the company's experts.
