Russian Poaching Vessel Arrested in Primorye

The Mys Nord, a Russian fishing schooner, was arrested in the Gulf of Peter the Great in Primorye for illegal crab fishing. According to the press center of the Pacific Regional Department of the Russian Federal Border Service, the schooner, which belongs to a private company called Sevkur, was arrested by the crew of the guard-ship Primorye.

Searching through the vessel, the coast guard discovered 5.5 tons of crab. The fishing license produced by the captain had expired on December 31, 2002. Apart from the crew, on board the schooner there was a fishing inspector from Primorrybvod.

The vessel was convoyed to Vladivostok, where an investigation was launched on Friday. It is still unclear what the inspector was doing on board the poaching vessel.
