LUKoil Named Best in 2002 as Concerns Quality, Environmental Protection

The LUKoil oil company has been named the best in 2002 as concerns quality and environmental protection. According to Daniil Smirnov, the press secretary of the LUKoil-Volganefteprodukt, LUKoil's subsidiary, the company has been selected for its environmental protection management systems, among the best in Russia.

Besides, Mr. Smirnov said that LUKoil's activities as concerned industrial safety, the protection of labour, and environmental protection were adequately matched to the company's impact on environment. As an example, he named LUKoil's programme for the ecological safety of the company's subsidiaries and dependent entities.

The all-Russian competition entitled "The Best Companies of Russia-2002" was held in December. The competition is supported by the government and has been held by Russia's Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and Chamber of Commerce - annually since 1997.
