Russian government intends to provide higher accessibility to information about the Cabinet activities

The Russian government intends to provide citizens with higher accessibility to information about the Cabinet and ministries' activities. The issue concerning a higher openness of the Cabinet was already discussed a year ago at a meeting with representatives of civic society, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov said on Thursday. "Today we'll have to consider the decree, which legally defines the format of the accessibility to information about 65 directions of government and ministries' activities", Kasyanov said. The proper statute will be prepared in the near future, the Prime Minister added.

In Mikhail Kasyanov's opinion, the provision of the accessibility to the information about the government and ministries' activities will broaden the openness, create the transparency of the Cabinet's work and enhance the citizens' trust in the authorities. Moreover, these measures of the Cabinet are also aimed to prevent the abuse of power, which is sometimes practised by representatives of the Federal authorities, the Prime Minister stressed. "Step by step we have to fulfil the citizens' constitutional right to accessibility to information about the activities of the authorities," Mikhail Kasyanov concluded.
