State Duma's centrist factions consider 2002 successful

The centrist factions in the State Duma, the lower chamber of the Russian parliament, believe that 2002 has been "the most productive" for the Duma concerning adoption of laws.

The chamber has been working "in an unprecedentedly intensive regime", said leader of the Regions of Russia deputy group Oleg Morozov at the Duma's news conference on the year's results. "Yet, this concerns not the quantity of the adopted laws, but their quality and importance," the MP emphasized.

The Duma has managed to adopt laws "Russia's further development cannot be imagined without", Morozov said. Among them he named the tax code, the new budget process rules and laws on farmland turnover. "The State Duma is working professionally, and debates have also been very professional," the deputy pointed out.

Leader of the Fatherland - All Russia faction Vyacheslav Volodin reported on the centrist factions' intention to amend the law "On the Government of the Russian Federation" next year.

It will grant ministers the right to join political parties, Volodin explained.
