Former Chechen terrorist was sentenced for 4 years of imprisonment and immediately pardoned

The trial of the former Chechen terrorist, who gave himself up to the Russian authorities, has ended in Pyatigorsk, Stavropol region /North Caucasus/. Mekhdi Magamadov, born in the village of Jugurta, was put on probation for 4 years of imprisonment and pardoned after the verdict had been announced.

In autumn of 1999 Magamadov joined the so-called Chechen "Shariat Guard" by having bought with his money 3 "Kalashnikov" assault rifles and bullets for them. The formation, which was headed by the terrorist, acted in the Shali region of the eastern part of the republic. One year later Magamadov decided to leave his terrorist formation and threw away part of his arms into a river and buried the rest in a forest. In June of this year he surrendered to Russian police and gave up his weapons.
