The automobile manufacturing plant GAZ is to stop its car assembly line effective December 23, the press service of the plant told RosBusinessConsulting. This is due to overproduction of GAZ cars, the press service specified. According to Alexey Barantsev, the General Director of the plant, another reason is a lack of car components that are supplied by AvtoVAZ and Izhmash-Avto.
However the plant has already fulfilled the 2002 production plan. The assembly line is planned to start again at the end of January 2003.
In the first 11 months of 2002 GAZ manufactured 182,754 automobiles, including 63,349 cars and 119,414 trucks.
