St. Petersburg Paper Plant Wins Order to Print Indonesian Rupees

The Russian Goznak company has won a tender organised by the Indonesian National Bank to supply 10-rupee banknotes. According to Goznak, the notes will be printed at the St. Petersburg paper plant. The first batch of banknotes will be delivered in February 2003, and the last in summer 2003. Goznak said that during this period the St. Petersburg paper plant will produce 13.5 thousand reams of paper, each consisting of 50 sheets. Each sheet will contain several dozen 10-rupee notes. The value of the contract was not revealed.

Participants in the international tender to supply banknotes to Indonesia included manufacturers of security paper from the US, Germany, Spain, and South Korea. Goznak first supplied Indonesia with this kind of product at the end of 2001. It also currently prints notes and mints coins for India and Egypt.
