State Duma suggests that Russians can take abroad up to $10,000 without special licence

The State Duma amended the law on currency control during its plenary session on Friday. According to the amendment, Russian citizens travelling abroad can take $10,000 without a special licence.

The amendment was supported by 255 deputies, while 10 voted against it and 4 abstained.

According to presidential representative in the State Duma Alexander Kotenkov, the amendment approved by the deputies will result in carrying $150 bln from the country. He believes that the law will be rejected by the president, and the old threshold of $1,500 will remain.

While addressing the State Duma, First Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said their decision was "premature".
