Commander of the North Caucasus Military District Dismissed for Publicly Questioning Leadership's Decision

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Wednesday, December 18, to dismiss Gennady Troshev from his post as Commander of the North Caucasus Military District. As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the president's press office, Colonel-General Vladimir Boldyrev, former Commander of Troops in the Siberian Military District, has been assigned this post.

Mr Putin puts great value on the work of Gennady Troshev during his period of service in the North Caucasus Military District. However, the president believes that is unacceptable to publicly question decisions taken by the leadership of the Armed Forces. Mr Putin himself has the title of Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian armed forces.
