US Ambassador to Russia Opens 'Corner of America' in Kaliningrad

US Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow took part in a ceremony yesterday to open a room of American literature at the Chekhov library in the centre of Kaliningrad. This is already the sixth such room in the North-West District of Russia.

'We believe that the 'Corner of America' in Kaliningrad is a great step towards expanding our links with this region,' said the ambassador. The room is intended for those who would like to learn more about the USA. We also hope that this will become a place for local people to meet exchange students and American specialists. The ambassador also mentioned the interest of US entrepreneurs in the region, which may become something of a bridge in economic terms between Russia and the West.

According to the press office of the Kaliningrad regional administration, the American delegation, led by Mr Vershbow, arrived in Kaliningrad today. The delegation will meet Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Vladimir Yegorov and Mayor of Kaliningrad Yuri Savenko. Furthermore, Mr Vershbow will visit the World Ocean Museum, where he will present the museum with a certificate accepting a museum exhibit (submarine 'B-413') into the Historic Naval Ships Association, which is represented in 90 ship museums around the world. Kaliningrad is the twin-city of American city Norfolk, Virginia.
