Chavez: Worst is over

The general strike called by the opposition in Venezuela against the democratically elected regime of President Hugo Chavez, encouraged by their foreign backers in the USA, whose oil companies are eyeing the state-owned Venezuelan oil industry amid increasing ownership fantasies, is floundering.

The negotiations with the Organisation of American States began again on Monday, while the opposition calls for early elections, accusing the President of ruining the country and Chavez insists that he was democratically elected to govern the country and that is what he is trying to do, despite a worldwide economic recession.

“Nobody in Venezuela can call for early elections, unless in a coup d’etat, as they have already tried to do”, said president Chavez on his weekly TV and radio programme.
