For the second time since October, the presidential elections in Serbia last Sunday failed to draw 50% of the voters and as such the results have been declared void by the Election Committee of Serbia, which declared the turn-out as 43.88% of the electorate.
Vojislav Kostunica (Democratic Party of Serbia, DSS), President of Yugoslavia, who was also standing for the Presidency of Serbia, received 57.41% of the votes cast but was forced to concede that “we do not recognise the results for various reasons”, among these, the irregularities in the drawing up of the lists.
In second place was Vojislav Seselj, of the Radical Party of Serbia (SRS), with 36.16% of the votes, while the radical nationalist, Borisla Pelevic received 3.6%.
