United Kingdom: Pacifists seek High Court Injunction to Prevent War
The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament has issued a high court injunction against prime Minister Tony Blair, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and Defence Secretary Jeff Hoon, prohibiting them from going to war against Iraq because this would be illegal under international law.
The CND claims that the Security Council Resolution 1441 did not give the go-ahead for automatic use of force should Iraq be seen not to have met the terms and conditions with full compliance and as such, and resort to military action outside the auspices of the UNO would be illegal.
The High Court is studying the case and will present its conclusions in the coming days.
