Hallucinogenic mushrooms contain psilobicin, which is a widely spread and cheap drug. At the end of summer, druggies eat hallucinogenic mushrooms in the forests. during other seasons, the mushrooms are made into soup or tea.

Depending upon the method of preparation, such mushrooms produce an effect after 20-45 minutes and the high lasts for 4-9 hours. The average dose used by druggies is three mushrooms.

The first stage of the mushroom high is a very pleasant excitement and cheerfulness and one’s dexterity and physical strength improve. During the second stage, people might have hallucinations: they hear voices and see spirits; all things around them are very strange. However, people still react normally and can answer questions. By the third stage, people loose their connection with reality, the move around a lot, and their speech is incoherent. After that, they usually sleep heavily.

The effect of hallucinogenic mushrooms is similar to LSD; several kinds of toadstools and mushrooms are hallucinogenic.

The Scandinavians widely used such mushrooms; for instance, they were used by Berserkers to become uncontrollably enraged. As well, Siberian shamans in Russia used to drink mushroom beverages to trance out.
