Russia's International Energy Prize presented in London

On Wednesday London hosted a presentation of the International Energy Prize instituted by Russia.

Chairman of the International Prize Committee, Nobel Prize winner Zhores Alfyorov, the Prize Board of Trustees member, chairman of the board of the Gazprom joint stock company Alexei Miller, and member of the International Prize Award Committee, English scientist Brian Spolding took part in the ceremony.

The Prize is intended to encourage the development of world knowledge in one of the most important spheres, energy, Alfyorov pointed out. It will contribute to developing cooperation between Russian science and the international community, he believes.

Miller, in his turn, pointed out that the annual $900,000 prize sponsored by Gazprom, the Unified Energy Systems of Russia and YUKOS, was "just a start." "We will continue providing practical organizational and material assistance for the Prize," he said.

The Global Energy international prize will be given for outstanding theoretical, experimental and applied research, development, inventions and discoveries in the field of energy development and power generation. It will be awarded annually in St.Petersburg by the President of Russia.
