Russia has no information whether Denmark will extradite Chechen rebels' emissary Zakayev

Russia does not have any information whether Chechen rebels' emissary Akhmed Zakayev will be extradited to Russian law-enforcement structures, the Russian President's aide Sergei Yastrzhembsky told journalists on Monday.

The term of Zakayev's custody expires on Tuesday, November 26th. He was arrested by the Danish authorities on the request from the Russian party. "I do not have any information concerning this situation, we will have to wait till tomorrow," Yastrzhembsky said.

At the same time, the request of the Russian General Prosecutor to the authorities in Qatar, concerning Maskhadov's other emissary, Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, "has achieved certain goals", he said. The Prosecutor's Office has sent the necessary documents to the country via diplomatic channels and held negotiations with representatives of the authorities, the President's aide reported. Yet he did not expand on the negotiations' results.

When commenting on the statement by Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze about Georgia's intention to join NATO, Yastrzhembsky pointed out that "there is nothing to comment here so far". "NATO admits first of all established states that are able to solve many problems both on their territories and in relations with their neighbours," he emphasized.
