Coordinator of 11th September arrested

The coordinator of the 11th September attacks has been arrested in Pakistan. Western Secret Services believe that he is the missing link in the hierarchy which coordinated the attacks between Afghanistan and the USA.

Thirty-year-old Ramzi bin Al-Shibh, from Yemen, spent two years living with Mohammed Atta, the operation leader of the September 11th attacks. Having joined Al-Qaeda in Hamburg in 1997, he departed for Afghanistan in 1999, where he met other Al-Qaeda members who were plotting the attacks. It is believed that he was the only member to have been present in two crucial meetings which put the operation into action, one in Malaysia and the other in Spain.

He is also believed to have been involved in the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen in 2000 and on a synagogue in Tunisia earlier this year. He was arrested in Karachi on Wednesday in a joint operation between the Pakistani police and the US Secret Services. He was located after carelessly making a telephone call from an apartment in Karachi. The call was intercepted and the block was surrounded by police.
