Angloplat Increases Stake

Anglo American Plc has continued to grow its controlling stake in Anglo American Platinum (AngloPlat) and is likely to increase its stake in Kumba Resources above the current 20,1%.

Anglo increased its stake in AngloPlat from 59% previously to 63,8% by end-June and the group had bought another 0,5% since then.

Instead Anglos total headline earnings were virtually unchanged at US840m (six months to end-June 2001: $847m), which translated into a 9% rise in headline earnings per share (EPS) to 60c/share (55c) because of the groups share buyback linked to the privatisation of De Beers.

Anglo is to give notification to London Stock Exchange when it reaches a level of 66%.
