Cattle herd caused railway accident in Siberia

According to preliminary data, a herd of cattle caused eleven railway cars and tank-wagons of a freight train to run off the rails on the Trans-Siberian Mainline (Transsib) Saturday morning, reports the West-Siberian Interior Affairs Transport Department.

The incident took place in the morning 85 km off Novosibirsk, near Ubinskoye. The driver of the train made up of over 100 cars saw a herd of cattle in the rails and braked sharp, which is assumed to have caused the cars to come off the rails. The electric locomotive ran off too. Eight out of 11 cars and tank-wagons overturned. Aviation kerosene was found in three tanks, and a fuel leakage took place.

Traffic was stopped on the Transsib. Works to eliminate the accident consequences and to resume train traffic are underway. No human victims are reported, with only several cows dead under the train.
