Russian President sends message to greet constituent assembly of Party for Russia's Revival

President Vladimir Putin of Russia has sent a message to greet a constituent assembly of the Party for Russia's Revival.

The message, which the assembly's participants and guests heard, reads in particular that the creation of a new party "is a serious step, which gives an opportunity not only to run for parliamentary elections, but also to execute the voters' will." The Russian leader expressed the hope that the name of the new party will not contradict its activities. He wished the delegates fruitful work and all the best.

When addressing the assembly, Gennady Seleznyov, Speaker of the State Duma (the lower chamber of parliament) and the leader of the Russia movement, stated that he saw many positive aspects in the government's efforts. He emphasized that the new party supported the President's policies targeted at "the country's economic growth," as well as his foreign policies, which "allowed the country to take the stand of a strong nation." Seleznyov thinks that the new party will become "a responsible and constructive public force in spite of its left-wing centrist orientation." Seleznyov also proposed a new strategy for left-wing forces - to take the stand of political compromise with the authorities.

Nevertheless, Seleznyov promised that the party would immediately oppose any governmental activities contradicting the party's policies. At the same time, he said the members of the new party should be adherent to the principle of "criticism and proposals."
