New gold mining plant put to operation in Far Eastern Russia

On Saturday, a new gold mining plant was put to operation at the Pokrovsky mine, the Amur region (Far Eastern Russia).

According to the regional administration, the plant is capable of processing up to 1 million tons of ore and produce up to 1 ton of gold per year.

The mine was opened at the Pokrovskoye deposit in 1999 and is producing gold using the method of leaching. In 2001, the Pokrovsky mine produced 2,827kg of gold which accounts for more than 20 percent of all gold produced in the Amur region.
