World Council of Churches calls on USA to cease hostility

The World Council of Churches has issued a statement calling on the United States of America to cease its campaign of hostility and threats against Iraq, claiming that it is worried about Washington’s policy to overthrow Saddam Hussein.

The World Council of Churches also called on the USA’s allies to resist the temptation to join in an attack on Iraq, “a military attack against a sovereign State”, under the pretext of a war against terrorism.

The Council, which includes all the Christian Churches, except the Roman Catholic Church, calls for Iraq to abide by United Nations resolutions, to destroy all its weapons of mass destruction and to guarantee all the political, economic, social and cultural rights of its people.
